SUMMER-ARY (JULY/AUGUST)

I’m actually dying of the cold right now and have been up for 3 hours feeling restless. I feel disgusting but since I’ve been a slob all summer, I might as well write a blog post.
Usually I would write posts late at night but to be honest I haven’t been staying up as late as I used to, I’ve also been busy during the day and kept putting it off. So here you go...a SUMMER-ARY of my holidays.
Aaron and Diane’s Wedding
Highlight of my summer was of course, Diane’s wedding. Diane is like a family friend/sister to me since we were both young, and I was privileged to be asked to be her bridesmaid back in July. This past year and a half, you’d soon see the wedding was all I talked about - it was fun having days out for bridesmaid dress shopping and the like. The wedding itself was superb - it was wonderful to see so much planning come together so beautifully.
The couple got married at our church, a lovely service complete with flowers which coordinated with our dresses and a pretty little bicycle outside.
The weather was perfect, probably the warmest day of the summer. We went to the Silent Valley and took photographs there. Then we headed to the reception in a LIMO! (One of my favourite parts) And enjoyed a delicious meal after more photographs at Canal Court Hotel in Newry. After a video and slideshow, we danced the night away. I can’t seem to put into words how perfect the day was. Many congratulations to Aaron and Diane!
Fused
I took part in Fused Summer Scheme again in Newcastle this year. This is the 3rd year I’ve been a leader and I was involved working with P.4 - P.7 age group. It was different than previous years due to having no American team from Lexington, Kentucky, so it was originally meant to be made up of Northern Irish leaders. However God provided us with a team of 11 Americans from Washington and Oregon. It was really fun to work with different people, plus a bonus was that some were Doctor Who and Sherlock fans! As usual it was wonderful working with the children, some familiar faces, and also some new people too. A great way to spend two weeks of my summer.
Art
Remember last year I worked on a mural in my local village? Well this year I helped create a big fish at our Village Fete. Ashley and Susan created the structure beforehand and during the fete, we encouraged children to glue tissue paper and get a photograph of themselves taken to stick inside the fish. We only had a few hours to decorate this one, so it was rewarding to see the fish ascend down the steps and around the fete. It was so much fun, I love working on creative projects like this!
Friends
I’ve had a number of awesome days spent with some incredible people. Rebecca and Emma came to my house for a sleepover and tour of Mourne. A group of us also celebrated Hannah’s 21st birthday on Cranfield beach with a BBQ and singalong. I met with Seb, Dave and Becca in Belfast for a catch-up and Cosmo. I had a housemate meet-up and saw Uncle Gordon a few times too. I also caught up with James last week and had many, many Container Parties.
It’s been excellent, however I’m losing three of incredible people - Kerri, Rebecca and Emma! Kerri and Rebecca have headed to U.S A to study for the year and Emma is leaving for Spain in a few weeks! I shall miss you all dearly but good luck and have a wonderful time. :D

DIGITAL IMAGING

Well lads,
Feels like a long time since I’ve been blogging properly. I’ve done a couple of memes but most of them were written a couple of weeks before posted because I knew I was going to be so busy.
However I am now FREE from the clutches of Digital Imaging coursework (but shall return to it with open arms in February.)
I must admit I thoroughly enjoyed working on this piece of coursework - it mirrors how Art is, except BETTER- research, experiment and final piece - except this time the final piece is not a painting or sculpture, but a photoshop piece.

Claudia + Art + Computers = ♥ LOVE

If that wasn’t fun enough for silly old me, we also were able to make a book!! Those who can recall my psychotic takeover on producing the Upper 6th Yearbook can imagine a similar behaviour which occurred for this project.
We used a company called Blurb to publish our book and mine should arrive in the post on the 5th January.
I’m very pleased with the way mine has turned out - and although my class mates are cursing under their breath as they continue to work on theirs - I am now free to enjoy my Christmas holidays!

Above is a .jpeg of the cover - and below is an embedded link if you would like to read or look at it.

Merry Christmas everyone! I shall update with my goodies next week.

THE BIG DAY!

Okay, better now than never. I shall discuss my traumatic but wonderful experience on the 8th February 2011 at Belfast University of Ulster Art College.

You know how I constantly talked about how I was freaking out about my portfolio. Well it was worth every single moment. Other people had lots of work, and some had hardly any. But their’s was all in A1 portfolio folders, which freaked me out big time because I had two suitcases of sketchbooks and final pieces!!

Disappointingly, when I arrived at 8:30am in the building, I discovered that everyone’s interview was at 9:15. I assumed everyone was given a slot and I so happened to be first. Alas, I was totally wrong. We sat in the entrance area for like 40 mins. I sat beside an unusual chap called Dryder? Or something similar to that. He was unusual, and a little creepy. But looked like one of them strange people who have an amazing gift for art. His portfolio was jammed packed with work. Would have liked to have seen it. Can’t imagine how he would have interviewed though, he didn’t acknowledge anything that was going on, he fell asleep later on. There were quite a few oddities there, but who am I to judge!
Then we were called up to floor E.

After all 30 of us got up to E, we all were told to get a table and place our work on it in this massive room, unused classroom I believe. Everyone sat their work down, but because mine was in books I had to set it all out separately. There was only a half table left so I had to place all my books on it. Then the man got cross at me and I wanted to cry. :( He told me to move it to the sofa, which kinda looked better for my work, but I was annoyed and wanted to slap him out of stress and aggravation.

We then were put into another room, complete with chairs scattered everywhere, and told to take a seat. They said they were going to take some time and look through everyone’s work.
This is when I regret I do not bring water, food or even my phone. We sat for an hour and 40 minutes. Of course, something like that would take a long long time, but time dragged on so much. Other student’s desks of works were in this room, so we were able to stretch our legs and look at their work. They had their own little area with a little wall round them for privacy. This I loved because it suited my own working style. Love the personal space that I can decorate, clean and call my own.
It was then I discovered the flaming charisma that was Mr Edward Cullen. Well, a guy, who was the spitting image of Robert Pattinson playing Edward sitting directly across from me. He was gorgeous. I’m not even joking. His hair was loosely combed back and had a strong jawline. To top it all off, he had a Cullen jacket on, the grey one that he usually wears in the films. It was so peculiar. I kept staring at him in awe. He looked real good. I hope he gets a place. His posture was fantastic, flaming with charisma. (May I add he also looked at me a few times, I think he was freaked out though.) He sparkled in my eyes. Haha.
Eventually, some interviewers returned, saying they will now begin the interviews. They said these go a lot quicker because they are only 10 mins long. They called the first few names of people and they left the room.

Then. THEN. The fire alarm went off.
I was so focused and terrified I honestly thought I was going to have a breakdown. So a few hundred of us clambered down 10 flights of stairs to only reach the bottom and find we have to go back up again. False alarm. What a surprise.
It was then I got talking to a girl called Chloe, and she was so nice. She was from Portadown and her portfolio was mostly fine art. And she does 4 A-levels! I overheard one of the girls who was in the middle of her interview at the time gushing about how nice the women were, and they asked questions from a sheet. She expected that these questions are asked to all the candidates. Mentally I began thinking of questions they could ask me.

I still did not have anything to occupy myself with. I wish I had my phone to text Mum or Dad, who were sitting in the cafe downstairs, patiently waiting and wondering what on earth was going on upstairs.

I found a book about Graphic Design and I don’t remember, but I think I read it cover to cover. I found an interesting quote about the difference between graphic design and advertising, but I didn’t use it in the interview, darn. Every so often a different interviewer came into the room, calling out someone’s name who was not mine. Chloe came and went, she got one of the woman. I was alone, afraid of getting the man who I was unable to decipher what he was saying.

At 11:40, finally, my name was called. But it was not the woman’s voice I was hoping for. Thankfully, it’s voice was one of the most friendly faces. I was so past myself hearing my own name, I’m afraid to say I could not remember his name. But he seemed jolly, and I immediately liked him. I beamed at him, excited that he had freed me from the white room prison.

I followed him into a room, the same room as where my art was sitting. But because half of them had already been interviewed, many tables were empty. I was led over to a single table, where I faced him and a slightly older man. My work was piled up beside them. They both introduced themselves, saying something along the lines of we want to find out things about you, you to find out things about us and the course.
I then spotted the paper on the table, and sure enough the girl was telling the truth. They continued, saying they were going to ask me a few questions.

These questions and answers were as followed. Roughly.

Why does Viscom appeal to you?
I have always loved art, ever since I started my GCSEs did I realise art was the route I wanted to follow. And although I do enjoy some fine art work and 3D work, I feel my work is much stronger using graphic design. My other strong subject is ICT and I feel by combining these skills give an outcome of a higher standard. In my area it is difficult to find groups that provide for this skill so my only option would be to this course in higher education.
What qualities do you have that are suitable for the course?
(I remember making this up before going into the room) Well firstly, I’m quietly confident. I seem like the quiet, shy type, but I am capable of the work I am given. Sometimes I don’t like speaking in large groups and I feel I shouldn’t be made to speak, but I can if I need to, such as now in an interview like this. I also do group management in ICT so I am familiar in working in groups and I enjoy contributing towards a project. This will be suitable for this course because I saw on your prospectus that group work will be done during the 4 year course.
Secondly, I am creative. I like seeing and responding to things around me. I like seeing something small and feeling inspired to draw it, or use it in someway to create something different.
Lastly, to put it bluntly, i’m crazy. But not in a bad way. I like being individual, that bit different. I like collecting things, wearing interesting and stylish clothes and having an interest in something that others don’t have. I think my uniqueness aids my work.
Do you have any disabilities or illnesses?
Um, no.
What job would you like to do after you graduate from this course?
What I like about this course is the wide variety of jobs that are available. At the minute I am looking to go into advertising, because the past year and a half I have used my skills to create posters and invitations for different events, which you may have seen here. *points to stripy book* *they nod understandingly* I enjoy making things that have a purpose, that make people think when they look at it, and I feel useful when I am able to help. I also enjoy fun art too. *They look confused, “What is fun art?”* They laugh. Oh, like photoshopping just for practicing and enjoyment. “You mean experimental?” Yes.
I said something else then ended with: so that’s why I think this course is perfect for me.

Of course, there is probably more that I blabbed about, but that’s basically all I can remember. There were more questions too but it’s all a blur now.

Before I left, I shook their hands, just like Patricia told me to, and began to pack up my many books. The jolly man helped me, and I made a joke about going on holidays because of the number of suitcases I had.

So that was it really. The day was long and I left at midday, starving, shaking but feeling confident because I tried my best. And that’s all that I could do, so I am pleased that I tried. All in God’s hands now.

ART DAY

Hello! Well I have had an eventful day today. Upper and Lower 6th art were in Belfast University of Ulster Art college to look at the Foundation work that the students have done. It was like a show.

Well I had this idea on the bus to narrate my day through the variety of moods and feelings I have had! So I noted them on my new notes system on my phone (It’s called Evergreen, and these notes sync with my mac, I LOVE it) And now I will continue....

Frozen

I was told to wait for the bus in Annalong at the very early time of 8:45. Stupidly, I went down early, expecting them to arrive on time. Well the bus did arrive, 25 minutes late. It was so cold, my hands had frozen and I couldn’t even shut the door of the mini bus. Bad start of the day.

Scared

After a long time trying to find the parking places on Donegal Street, we arrived in the University campus. I immediately felt fear as I walked in, because of the fact this could be my future right here for the next 4-5 years. The building was so big, it’s like starting high school again except 10 times worse.

Bored

We found our way up to the right floor and were immediately greeted by a walls and tables spilling over with sketchbooks, 3d work, paintings, photos batik, you name it. Everything possible were scattered across the rooms of this floor. This was the “exhibition.” I name this part bored, because after a wee look round, it become a little bit dull, and there was too much work to take in in one go. Not that I didn’t enjoy it though, it was an experience. I took some photos of my favourite pieces of work. No good looking guys though, I’m afraid. Some people looked scary. Crazy art folk...

Warm

After about an hour in the building, we all felt like we were going to melt. The crowds and pieces of work were everywhere, even some work was hung from the roof! It was quite a challenge not to hit into it. Mrs McGreevry got in contact with this man who was a teacher in the Foundation course, so he told us all about the foundation course, portfolio and interview and it really really helped me. After having a pancrap yesterday about my portfolio, I felt more settled because it helped a lot. He had said even if my specialist work is good, but I need more experience, they may move me into the Foundation course for a year, and then give me a placement for 2012 in Viscom. Victory! That would be brilliant. However, even though this was benefitting me, everyone else was either bored, too warm or hungry, and poor Naomi, she fainted!

Confident

Thankfully the man helped me out lots and I don’t feel as worried about the interview now. He said they don’t look at the applicants less because they don’t have the Foundation year behind them. Even if this doesn’t maybe make sense, I am happy, and that’s all you need to know.

Hungry

We then were on our way home, and we stopped for food at the garage. Nom nom.

Excited

I’m now pleased at the discovery of this day, and I look forward to doing more work to complete my portfolio.

Hopeful

I came home and sorted more celebrity letters to send. I was down at the post office yesterday, and I do believe I confused the poor guy. He didn’t understand why I wanted to send a SASE inside another envelope. I went down today and unfortunately it was the same man. Thankfully I got them sent anyway, I don’t even know if they are right, but that’s my best shot. I addressed ones to Freida Pinto, Katy Perry, Justin Chon and Amanda Seyfried. Three in the USA and one in India, so dear knows if I’ll ever get a reply. I’ve also got 2 in the U.K: Gok Wan and Emma Watson, and had sent an email to America Ferera too. I can't wait for a response!

ART IS WHAT YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH

I think my art turns out best when I start and have the attitude “Eugh, this is going to turn out a mess” that’s when it turns out quite good.

But then I become all positive and go “Yay, I should keep going and paint another one! In fact, I should paint as many as possible!” And then that’s when it all goes downhill.

All my recent pieces have been in acrylic (even though I used to shun acrylic paints- to be honest, I just didn’t like cleaning it up after) I have discovered I’m better at painting thick and free- my work looks better than the whole neat and detailed thing. You don’t notice all the mistakes and mis-portioned faces as much. Muaha.

Anyway, here is some of the craptacular art!

THE JAEJOONG

Okay, these are going in order of being uploaded to this post, and Jaejoong seems to be the first one... So yeah, I had just finished one of Jared and I decided to keep going. I think this one works because it's very dark. I think this is actually one of the better ones. The photos haven't been edited or cropped (obviously) I just can't be bothered. I've been studying all day and it's really taken it out of me. (LOL.)

TAEMIN THE SPACEMAN

This is Taemin from SHINee. I picked this one because at the time I thought it would be easy enough to paint. However I do not like painting white t-shirts. I done this one yesterday morning, and I think I focused too much on the skin colour and perhaps the weird white top made the skin look even darker. Firstly, he doesn't look anything like the picture I was working on- I somehow managed to make his skin look all bulgy. And c'mon, the white tee looks padded and lumpy, just like an astronaut! Doesn't help he had a top saying "SPACE" on it!

MINHO (Eyebrowless)

Minho from SHINee. This is the worst one, which I had started straight after the spaceman one. Poor guy. I know now not to draw teeth in the future. Actually this one isn't even finished, as you can see by the note. He hasn't got any eyebrows! Or the little white glint in his eye. Or the detail on his jacket. Or his wonky eye. Blah! I don't even want to!

JARED AND HIS LES PAUL

Jared got a Gibson Les Paul for Christmas. To be critical, it does look like a banjo. And his nose looks hooked. But otherwise this looks alright, I think. It's good too that I'm using my own photos.

LAST ONE: JARED AGAIN

This was the first one I painted, so I was quite pleased with the way it turned out. Apart from eyes being different sizes, which I often do. I liked doing this one.

So yeah, that's them all guys. Even if some did turn out wrong, I'm glad because I've got practice now and will be able to improve. I'm doing a self-portrait like May-Jay said in the last post at the moment, but it's out in the container drying. So perhaps I'll show you it when it's done. It looks good so far.

Again, any requests or ideas, please let me know. :)

“Well, what do you love most?”

That’s how I started painting money."

PAINT JUNKIE

If you comment quick enough, I’ll paint you a picture.

Rules: Request something that I actually might consider drawing, and need to use for my portfolio.

Next post: all my artwork for portfolio work that will be up for grabs after I’m finished with it!

A month to go...

I found this awesome artist the other day for my portfolio. It’s similar to Marlene’s but..so so much better, probably because he's doesn't do gory macabre stuff. (shhh don’t tell her) He’s Korean (for my Korean page in my countries book..) and his name is Lee Minjae. To be honest, when I saw his work and his name, I automatically thought he was a girl. Clearly not. He’s unusual though. (Both ears are pierced, yeah) But very talented. Have a look at his work. It’s unreal. I NEED a print.

Thoughts: perhaps ask mother for a Marlene and Minjae print to store in my ‘bottom drawer’ for an 18th gift? Something to keep in mind.

Okay, that's all.

Bottom Drawer: old fashioned way of storing things: like notebooks, curtains, pens, cushions, etc that you keep and look after until you own a house for yourself. So when you are poor after buying a house/or moving to uni, you will have a selection of bottom drawer stuff already saved up. I got GHDs this Christmas for bottom drawer because Jared and I would fight over keeping other pair when university time looms.

KISS THE BABY SKY

Hey applebody,

I guess I did do a post before Christmas after all. The alphabet posts will likely continue in the new year.

Wow, it’s actually Christmas Eve, that’s just not sinking into my head today. I don’t think the day could go any slower either, not that I really mind. Christmas will come and go, and to be honest no-one seems ready or excited for it. I’m trying super hard to be excited, but I don’t know if it’s working.

I spent today working on my Countries book. People who see me round school may have seen me running about and working on this, it’s just a little side project for the portfolio. It’s really fun to focus on, but it’s just taking so much time. I’ve also started on another thing, a CD book. Dad drilled holes in the CDs which was interesting to watch, then I tied it with string and made it into a book. Now I’m just drawing my favourite bands and sticking them in.

I’ll show you SHINee’s page (page? cd, whatever) because it’s the most respectable and the best one. Also have done BIGBANG and Super Junior. Suju’s looks vile, kinda makes me want to cry: they don’t even look like themselves.

I might post a picture when the whole book is completely done.

Don't I look so happy? What a state.

I don’t know, I think these past days are just full of exciting surprises, it’s so nice, it’s making me smile like something silly. First, it was the wee meet up with friends and we randomly went to Newry (oh no, I’m blogging about stuff I do...I hate that), then I found out I got a interview: probably the happiest I’ve ever been, now I’m working on portfolio work about stuff I love which is heaven. Masa released a remix last night: unexpectedly, I had forgotten he was making one. He probably doesn’t mean anything to anyone who doesn’t llisten to Kpop, but I adore him, and his new song was unreal. Then James wrote a blog, which was so nice. And now it’s Christmas. Ah!

I guess I’m much happier than I thought!

M is for...

Mentor

I originally had this as music, but you all know what my music taste is, so I found something better.

So I have some GREAT news! If you didn’t hear via Facebook, I got a letter from University of Ulster yesterday! I was actually out at the time, but Mum phoned me asking permission to open it (basically) but I think she had already. Besides the point, I was invited for an interview for DESIGN FOR VISUAL COMMUNICATION!

Yes, the course. THEE course! Not even the foundation year, THE COURSE. The course I’ve been blogging about, and losing sleep thinking about. I feel like I’ve been proposed to. Don’t actually think it’s sunk in properly yet, but I woke up today with a smile on my face, excited to do some ART.

I have like triple the work to do now, because the interviewers will be looking for work that has a foundation year behind them, something I don’t have. After looking at the site, they do accept people from all levels. Wow, I’m so happy.

The first person I told was Patricia. Over the summer, I wrote a letter to Trish on this blog, just because she is so amazing. To fill you all in, Patricia is a friend of my Uncle Gordon who is an artist who now lives in Australia. She also went to Art College and got the highest grade in her year. Lately I’ve been in contact with her via FB, asking her advice about interviews and portfolio work.

She’s helped me out so much. Like, I didn’t realise the immense amount of work that needs to be done. (Example: 10-15 A6 books, 10-15 A4 books and an A1 portfolio with boarded work) She has so much faith in me, constantly repeating “You are going to art college!” I would have given up by now if it wasn’t for her. She even contacted her old art friends and tutors asking for even more information for me. It’s given me the kick I need to work really really hard.

So yeah, Patricia is like my mentor for the next few months. Just one that lives across the globe, able to basically do what she wants. (In some ways, she lives the life I dream to have!) She is my Cheryl, and I am her Cher. She is my Usher, and I am her Justin.

If I don’t get in with all this work, I’ll just accept it, and hope God has something better in store. I wonder will I get a Foundation Course letter too?

I’m going to lock myself in the house for the next few months, until February at least.

If I don’t blog tomorrow or the 25th, I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas from Claud's blog! :)

STARDUST

Oh blog! I’m in a very good mood! I don’t know why. But I felt inspired to write something so I try to never let that moment pass. I really should read Gatsby tonight, but I don’t really feel like it.

Sometimes, I would like to read on the bus on the way to school/home time. I definitely would if the fools on the Annalong bus were not so savage and would refrain from throwing sausages, potato and many other Home Ec goods at the back of my head. Or if the little Primary School rats would shut their trashy mouth for two minutes. (In Primary School, I wouldn’t have been allowed to get a bus in my own! Actually, would I have even known how?)

Being a Prefect, you would think I should do something about this bad behaviour? Well, what is the point. Annalong students are the worst out of all the bus people, and shouting at them is exactly what they want so they could stir it up even more.

So I’ll just stick my earphones in like I do everyday and block out the many flaws in High School life. (And secretly mutter bad names under my breath.)

I’m looking forward to Saturday! I’m meeting my Uncle David (Deta, as we all call him) who lives in London. He’s over to visit us now but then is spending Christmas with his family. Ah! How I’ve missed him! He used to come down every Boxing Day when he lived in the same house as Uncle Gordon. I can’t wait to see him again. The snow better not ruin my plans.

I’m looking forward to Christmas! I don’t want anything in particular, I told my parents not to get me too much, because after all, I did get a car this year as well as so many trips and outings. I have a growing fear for Christmas too. That sounds really ridiculous, but I really don’t want to put weight on. I’m scared of putting on the weight I spent so long on losing. And it’s not going to be easy. Saturday 18th is Noelle’s birthday, which is a meal out. Sunday 19th we have our annual Burrendale meal which consists of delicious Turkey and Ham. Monday 20th is the S.U dinner, ANOTHER Christmas dinner. Then I think we can all guess what’s also on that week: Christmas parties= Junk Food, Christmas Eve= stuffing face with Quality Street, and the killer: Christmas Day. One more, we have a meal on Boxing Day due to more relatives arriving, so yeah I’m screwed!

I’m really getting back into using Last.fm again in school, when I’m working on I.C.T. I even got Noelle using it. Lately I’ve been listening to DBSK and JYJ loads, so it’s a really cool way of listening to more of their songs for free. Tumblr on the other hand, hasn’t been working this past week, and I’ve noticed a slight withdrawal symptom in me from not being able to reblog my favourite pictures. Sad, I know, but I love it!

Currently on the past snow days, I’ve been working on potential Portfolio work for my art interview. (D.V) It’s coming on well, but takes an awful lot of time. I don’t think my AS work is up to standards for this unit. It’s very annoying when it’s not up to standard, kinda makes me angry.

I just got an email through from Mr Harris: “UCAS sent” What does that mean? DOES THAT MEAN IT WASN’T SENT LAST MONDAY? oh no!

I was reading future posts that need to be posted. (Letters I have wrote, but because I’m posting them in order I can’t post them just yet) and saw A SPELLING MISTAKE. But it’s one I can’t alter because it’s in an image! It will make sense when it’s online. But aragh!

Did I tell you IRIS is over? Well it is. I wrote on Facebook the other night: “So that's the end of IRIS: I laughed, cried, shouted insanely and swooned. Definitely one of the best shows I've ever seen! Can't wait to see the movie version. :D” Which hit the nail on the head. It was so so good. I was far too emotional. They left a lot of blanks and gave us an ending that would making you cry out in despair, but are releasing a movie version of all 20 episodes which will hopefully put all the pieces together.

Mum, Jared and I decided to watch a film last night, it was this Kung-Fu/Western thing, wasn’t that good, but anyway, when we started it, Mum warned me “Now Claudia don’t take this in too much because I don’t want to encourage this sort of thing” Yeah Mum, because I have the hots for Jackie Chan.

Honestly! This is the same Mother who watched all 20 IRIS episodes with us and had favourite characters too! And the same Mother who stores a photo of fat-to-thin T.O.P in the treat cupboard to help her diet. Can’t say it works, but he’s there watching us...

My family is as crazy as I am.

And no, I still haven’t seen Harry Potter.

A is for...

Art

So I’ll start with the obvious. I’ve always been known for ‘liking art.’ I don’t think I’m particularly good, I think I just get lucky sometimes. To be honest, I can’t really be bothered going into details about how much I like art because it reminds me of my rubbish personal statement which is full of that nonsense.

My favourite artist is without-a-doubt Marlene Freimanis. I discovered her on DeviantArt in 4th year when I was researching artists and have managed to use her as my inspiration ever year since. She’s one of them people with incredible skill, like Gareth Graham. (Everyone in art class wants to be as talented as Gareth!)

She releases so much emotion and her own personality in her pieces, which I love because I try to do that too. Here is some of my favourite work of hers. More here.

I have set Art for Foundation year as a choice for university. It’s like a dream to get into it, I would lose sleep some nights thinking of how I would feel if I get rejected and what would I do instead. I must hand it over to God on determining what I’m actually going to do career-wise with art because then I’ll be completely satisfied and will be sure I haven’t made the wrong decision.

Mum and I was discussing this earlier, she said I would make a good teacher. I really don’t like the thought of that. It would involve me speaking to others, hmm effort. Then again, I think I would get used to it really quickly, because I adored Peer Tutoring last year with Ruby and the gang. I miss them this year! And it is just Art. I always make mistakes in subjects and arguments, but at least in art you can never really be wrong. I like the idea of helping others with something I feel passionate about, so I need to keep it open as an option.

I feel my art is stronger when using computers to create designs and layouts. Painting isn't my strongest point.

Anyway, here is one of the best pieces I've done so far, well, in my opinion.

TECH??

People laughed at me for seeing the Ladyboys. But others said they want to go. I want to go again. I wonder has Uncle Gordon has got anymore free tickets.

So yeah, I think I’m sorted for what I’m doing after A-Levels. So the course that has been winking at me since 5th year is University of Ulster Belfast: Foundation Art. This works because, well, it’s basically just another year of doing a range of art, which totally suits me.

I would then go on and do the course of my dreams; Design and Visual Communication. Also UU of Belfast.

That’s been the plan until... 11am today. When it struck me, why pay thousands of pounds for a foundation art course? Not only is it impossible that I could get in, due to my average, non-improving art talent and these things known as the recession and the ever-rising Uni fees, WHY BOTHER? I think I would be foolish having to be another £5000 or whatever to pay off when I eventually get a job.

So, that’s right guys, Claudia, is going to tech for a year. JUST for one year. NEWRY!!

This has never even crossed my mind as an option, now it’s likely to happen if I’m not accepted anywhere else. My other choices on UCAS are courses I don’t really want to do: I’m just checking how likely it is that I’ll get in somewhere.

It’s a shame that the course couldn’t be in somewhere interesting like Belfast, but alas, I shall carry on. It’s only 3 days a week so I could get some money saved up by getting a part-time job. I know Rachel will be going too, so we could get lifts together if that suits.

This means another year in Annalong, that would be hell for some people but I couldn’t care less. It’ll be better in the long run. However, the thought of my friends going to uni without me makes me miserable!

The plan is to send my UCAS form away before Christmas. Then if I don’t get any responses back I’ll sign up for Newry. It’s a first come, first serve basis system there.

Eventually, I’ll be accepted (D.V) to the course of my dreams: Design and Visual Communication!!

What you need for this course:

Submission of a good portfolio of work that demonstrates your ability and enthusiasm for the course is required. This portfolio will be filled through the work I do in the Foundation course. Applicants will be interviewed. Why wouldn’t they want me?

A minimum of 240 UCAS Tariff Points to include grades CC (one of which should be in art and design or related subject). Yep.

Successful completion of an Art and Design Foundation Course. = NEWRY!

Three/four years.

About the course:
Visual communication design is the use of words and images in graphic design, advertising, websites, film and television, gaming and publishing. In the vast world of contemporary professional communications, designers are developing their discipline or inventing new roles for themselves.
The course seeks to develop practical and theoretical skills in students that enable them to address both given projects and their own work through the use of various media, not all of which are computer based.
Practical work is evidenced through a range of opportunities including typography, illustration, photography and motion for contexts such as web design, animation, print, screen and the urban environment. Central to all of these is an understanding of the processes and practices of Graphic Design. The DVC course is designed to provide an integrated learning experience which combines practical skills with the history and theory of visual communication. Applicants should be interested in words, pictures and ideas, willing to problem solve, be enthusiastic and adapt to change. etc.

Employment
Visual Communication graduates are successful in the design / advertising / multimedia / media / broadcasting / publishing and promotional industries. It is also possible to go into teaching.

SHAKESPEARE

A much needed blog post!

I have been so so SO busy recently. I don’t think I’ve been so occupied with life ever. So busy I haven’t had time to get a haircut, book a driving lesson or even pluck my eyebrows. It’s been non-stop the last three weeks or so.

It doesn’t stop there: I discovered I have something major on every week until the middle of November. It’s crazy. Having Lady Gaga and the Art Dublin overnight on the same week is NOT good.

So what have I been up to? I signed myself up to the Sound Crew for the Shakespeare performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream” the school is taking part in the Waterfront, as part of Shakespeare Schools Festival. I absolutely love it. I have made friends with people who I would have never talked to before and the rehearsals are great craic. However they are after school and on Saturdays so that’s taken up so so much time. Not that I mind, it’s just mad that I’ve been able to cope.

I also put myself forward as Media Rep for the show: basically advertising the production. I spent two weeks making a Show Programme on Pages on Henry mac, and people were saying how professional it looked. It’s nice being complimented for something you enjoy doing. I also created some posters (more will be printed eventually, I’m just so tired tonight I’m taking a night off) and a 3D art piece with information hanging from it, which only took one day to make!

Our first show was today last two periods to the Junior School. It went really well, the audience laughed a good bit, which kept on surprising me because I kept forgetting they were watching! We have another show for the Seniors tomorrow, then one at 7pm for Parents and Friends. Then Wednesday is the Waterfront performance! Oh I’m rather excited!

I also have G.B on Mondays and Sunday School with P.1s on Sundays, ah! Never realised how much fun helping out with church stuff could be!

I think I’ve become so focused on Shakespeare I just neglected everything else, now I have a humungous pile of school work, ironing and Iris/Betty/xfactor catch up on Sky+.

Things that will be going on:

  • More performances
  • The Waterfront!
  • S.U Weekend
  • Richard II in some theatre next Tuesday
  • Halloween Holidays
  • Lady Gaga
  • Dublin Weekend
  • Prefect Disco
  • G.B Christmas Shopping

AHHH AND CHRISTMAS SHOPPING AND RESITS AND THE GYM AND DIETING AND--

I NEED ££££! :(
